Can you post your log files from doing this? There is no difference between an V1 and V2 connector. There are A and B type connectors which are completely orthoganal. You must plug the A end into the host (computer) and the B end into the device (hub). This is the same for V1 and V2. Did you do that? Did you plug in the power connector (which looks like a floppy power connector) too?
