Yes, it was applied correctly.

You may be right about it being horribly broken.  That could explain why
they used the Vendor Specific class code -- to prevent people from trying
to connect to it!  Or maybe the camera uses some weird variant on the
standard protocol.

The debugging log showed that the first command (INQUIRY) sort of worked;
the camera accepted it and sent a reply, although the reply was entirely
blank.  The next command caused the camera's firmware to crash.

One approach is to see how other operating systems communicate with the
camera.  Will it work with a computer running Windows?
