I really havn't been following this thread and I don't want to sound
confrontational or anything but doesn't GPL make the market more service
oriented rather than product oriented? - since anyone can have that product -
not everyone can have the service or demeanor - which probably makes it so you
need good social skills to sell yourself but isn't that really what programming
is evolving into as well - a service rather than a creation of a product? -
especially when I think IT today - where you don't really think of a website as
a finished product but you hire in terms of a continuous service from a web
developer

What I mean is RedHat etc don't really make their money off the product sales
but of the support costs (inherintly why MS has problems with GPL - because
they aren't setup to support customers and have always been product oriented)

the money in the field really is more service oriented - like I know of
numerous companies supporting gpl projects to implement features they are
custom or what not - and in that reguard the GPL environment supports its own -
or paying for having installations of qmail/linux/etc etc is pretty common as a
tool for revenue

I guess that's more of a rant - and I understand how you can associate the GPL
as being anti product oriented - but then again would a service market be all
that bad?

Just my 2 cents
