Both ATI and Creative have done the same. Creative from what I remember
was very daring back in the early 90's or so for supplying specs and
example programs to anyone who cared to ask. And I know ATI did release
full specs to one of their cards without requiring an NDA. I'm not sure
how soon after relase it was, though.
