Bugger, you're right. I was under the impression that the owner of a file could reassign ownership and group. Thinking about it, it was the wrong impression as I have only done this as root anyway. I stand corrected. However, what this means for your initial question is that it looks like you're buggered. Unfortunately I have to admit that when it comes to file permissions Microsoft has the better solution. Kerry.
