Interesting - they didn't offer me, but then I didn't ask.

Btw, if you get a new Telstra number, your mobile number will also be
the same. That's an advantage Telecom can't offer.

And who said that joining up with Telstra means you're forced to give
Telecom the boot? You can get cable modem + a new number from Telstra,
and the old number from Telecom. Not really too much of a hassle.

I did this too - the Telstra guy even hooked up the Telecom line to the
one socket which had my flatmates Sky box on it, and the Telstra line to
all the other boxes in the house. Having 2 lines (and 2 numbers) was
really convenient for testing out that fax software I installed...

In case of doubt, the Telstra internet is heaps more reliable. All the
equipment is new, designed for the purpose, and the cable is designed
for 1GHz or above. Telecom's solution is at best a clugde, and runs
over copper wires designed for 8kHz which have been corroding under the
water table for many times longer than their specified usage (so an
engineer told me).

Of course, if Telstra isn't interested in your business, you're a bit
sunk.
