Ditch Compaq. A few days ago I priced desktop machines. You must buy the monitor and pay MS tax with Compaq desktops, one reason. I know that not even Compaq models with the same model number may contain the same hardware (ask Dave Lane about this too). Plus, a locally assembled box has exactly(!) what you want, and ONLY COSTS HALF. I fail to see why anyone would buy Compaq desktops. Is it for hardware support? Can get that easily enough in town. Beats me. Compaq laptops have one advantage: they come with a worldwide Compaq guarantee (desktops do not). This is an advantage for frequent travellers, and is something local suppliers can't offer. As for the MS tax, the blame is with Compaq, who don't offer a box without OS, not with Microsoft. Why should Billy offer a refund when Compaq doesn't bother to offer their stuff without Billyware? Now I *did* say ditch Compaq, didn't I? Volker -- Volker Kuhlmann is possibly list0570 with the domain in header http://volker.orcon.net.nz/ Please do not CC list postings to me.
