If you ask a Solaris (�8?) box what it is, it replies: kiwi:mpj17$ uname -a SunOS kiwi 5.8 Generic_108528-12 sun4u sparc So the name of the "operating system" is SunOS. Naaaa :) It gets confusing because in typical Sun tradition they have a two names for almost the same thing. c.f. JRE/Java, UltraSparc-II/Sun4u...
