I inherited, i.e. was given, an Epson 600 colour printer basically because
 the previous owner was sick of the trouble it gave him & he wanted to be rid
 of the stress it caused him. My own experince with it is not as bad as his,
 but to be quite honest, I don't thnk I'd want to have another if I had to
 buy one. I seems to need an aweful lot of cleaning and test cycles before
 you get a a rough approximation to "the perfect print". I will say though
 that I have not tried very hard to achieve that "perfect print"  on glossy
 paper with the highest definition possible. My feelings about it can be best
 summed up as "To get really good output you need to devote a lot of care and
 attention to the animal".

Also do note that HP caught the Open Source Bug for a little while recently,
and do produce at least one fully supported "Linux Printer". I forget the
number, but a search on the http://www.hp.com page will, I'm sure, produce
the answer.
