Steve Bell is on permanent record as saying:
:So, Nick and Volker, are you saying that if I install Gentoo or SuSe, I get
:Ardour installed too?
:
:Can I do that as straight from the install CD, or do I still need to
:"compile" it somehow? Maybe install from source and compile as it goes?
:Really sorry if this is a dumb qn, as you can see, I really don't
:understand.

Installing gentoo requires you to compile everything, which is why
ardour is available. However, as Nick mentioned, the dependency checks
are handled in the process.

As for SuSe, you'll want to get the version number of that distrobution.
As I mentioned, the author has asked that binaries not be distributed
yet. It may have been included in only one release of SuSe, and after
that, will likely be a relatively out of date version, given that the
author is developing on this project full time at the moment.

Given that you are new to Linux, I am hesitant to recommend trying
gentoo, since it requires a lot of compiling. SuSe might be a better
option if you just want to check ardour out. If you want all the
up-to-date changes, you'll likely have to get to know your compiler and
tools.
