Hi!

Thanks for all your feedback on GNOME vs. KDE. I thought, if you're writing so many comments, it would only be fair analysing them. Here's the so far result:

GNOME: #
KDE: #####
Tie: #

Even though, the decision looks quite clearly, I'll follow the advice of most of you and install both. This brings me to a second issue. I'm using Red Hat 8.0 at the moment but would like to change to Debian. As I've read in your (Andy's) mail, you're using Debian 3.0 'woody'. Have you got the installation CDs of it?

Cheers,

Conrad

Hi,

A while back I put this question to my linux-savvy friends. Whilst one or maybe two said "Gnome" they didn't really care, and the rest said "KDE". Of those who said KDE, quite a few put exclamation marks afterwards.

So, here I am with Debian 3.0 woody, with the 2.4 kernel and KDE 2.2.2.

It's all good.

In addition (no, don't try and stop me), you can switch between the two, or any number of other window managers! How about that!

I played around with a couple, but I just like KDE and all the neat KDE integration and tasteful apps. The Gnome stuff looks a bit garish.

My $0.02

Hi all!

I'm a new linux user and wondering at the moment whether to use the
GNOME or KDE desktop. Can anybody give me a hint what the differences/
pros and cons are?

Thanks!
