there are a few NEC models mentioned, need more details to check it out. or search the exact model on google (as already suggested). also /proc/pci or lspci may give you chipset clues. Or try knoppix and see if it detects the modem, that is always a good option with any hardware problems. Don't give up yet Yuri!
