Hi again Phil,
Did you ever strike this error?:
No, what does <ntfsresize -n -s 22G /dev/hda1> say? The "-n" makes it safe, dry run. You may need to increase size a few times. Continued below.
Cause = Win Shutdown fault it seems, explained here: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=jaxlug-list&m=104563887228280&w=2
A C-level patch for ntfsresize seems to exist here: http://www.linuxhq.com/kernel/v2.5/69/fs/ntfs/super.c
But this raises the question of how much compiling can I do using Knoppix, incl Parted (ready on main sys > fd0 )? An 8MB Linux partition is available on the laptop - any use?
Y & N. But as the system is fully useable under XP as is, I'd rather purchase if necessary some partitioning software for it (Acronis' Partition Expert demo looks perfect) & save the reinstall time. Nothing precious to be preserved - it's new. I just don't believe no Linux solution exists. Still looking..[EMAIL PROTECTED] ntfsresize -i /dev/hda1

Totally 1 cluster accounting mismatches.
ERROR: Filesystem check failed! Windows wasn't shutdown properly or

filesystem. Please run chkdsk on Windows.
It looks as though the error is towards the start of the HDD.
Do you have the means to reinstall XP? Is there any data/programs that
need to be preserved on the HDD? If the answers are yes and no, then
force ntfsresize. If everything falls over, reinstall XP and start again.
The results can go into the knowledge pool.
Anyone else got any ideas?Cheers
Phil.
