NZ has _never_ worked properly for me,
Pacific/Auckland always has.

I don't have the goooey thing for timezone, cos I know wehre I live (or
thought I did)

Since starting this I downloaded the file Chris was talking
about. take a look at the file named backwards Chris. I quote:

"# This file provides links between current names for time zones
# and their old names.  Many names changed in late 1993.

[big snip]

Link    Pacific/Auckland        NZ"

That implies to me that Pacific/Auckland IS correct, and NZ is the old
name, which changed in 1993.
