I've been going on the assumption that it is, but I'm not really sure how to tell.  What's the easiest way to find out ?

Oops, I spoke too soon :-( . RoseGarden appeared to be working, but I
couldn't get any sound out of it. I've fiddled around with lots of
programs and settings, and then RG started to crash when starting up
:-\ . Eventually I found a newsgroup posting that said to use
'modprobe snd-seq' and that stopped the crashing, but I still didn't
have any sound. Now KMidi, Timidity et al have started crashing as
well, so something's up.

Any ideas where I should start ?

If it's any help, this is what I get when I start the
RoseGardenSequencer from Konsole:

**************
$ rosegardensequencer
MappedAudioPluginManager::discoverPlugins - discovering plugins
Rosegarden AlsaDriver - alsa-lib version 0.9.0rc6

  ALSA Client information:

    Record client set to (-1, -1)

AlsaDriver::initialiseMidi - can't subscribe input client/port
AlsaDriver::initialiseMidi -  initialised MIDI subsystem
cannot connect to jack server
cannot connect to default JACK server
AlsaDriver::initialiseAudio - JACK server not running
**************

If I try to start JACK, I get this:

**************
$ jackd -d alsa -d hw
jackd 0.50.0

jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY

creating alsa driver ... hw|1024|2|48000|swmon|rt
ALSA: Cannot open PCM device alsa_pcm/hw
cannot load driver module alsa
jack main caught signal 15

Any thoughts ?

Hi there,
I'm having some fun (not) trying to install a program. Is anyone
able to help ?
It's a music notation/MIDI composer called RoseGarden.  I'm using
Mandrake 9.1.

I've downloaded the following RPM's:

rosegarden-4-arts-0.9.1-2mdk.i586.rpm
librosegarden0-4-arts-0.9.1-2mdk.i586.rpm

I right-click on 'rosegarden-4-arts-0.9.1-2mdk.i586.rpm' and select
'Software Installer'.
I then get this message:
***
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be
installed (6 MB):
libjack0-0.50.0-3mdk.i586
rosegarden-4-arts-0.9.1-2mdk.i586

Is this OK?
***

I click on OK, and a few seconds later get this message:
***
Conflicts were detected:

librosegarden0-4-arts = 0.9.1 is needed by
rosegarden-4-arts-0.9.1-2mdk libRosegardenSequencer.so.0 is needed
by rosegarden-4-arts-0.9.1-2mdk

Install aborted
***

I'm stuck at this point. I assume ' librosegarden0-4-arts' is the
RPM I downloaded (above).  I can't find '
libRosegardenSequencer.so.0' anywhere. I've Googled hi and lo, and
found nothing helpful. I've tried installing 'librosegarden0-4-arts'
first, but it complains that it needs 'rosegarden0-4-arts', so I'm
going round in circles...

Any advice/ideas gratefully received !

Thanks
Dave
