Independance from an ISP is valuable - and I also like leaving all my
email on an IMAP server, so I can get to it from work or at home. Yes,
over SSL :-)

For some usages, it seems excessive to have a 'remote' server when you
have ADSL at home, might as well provide all the services from an old
junk machine in the garage :-) but there are less changes happening in a
rack, usually ...

Waikato LUG provide shell services as part of membership
(http://www.wlug.org.nz/WlugServer), it seems to work for them ...
