If you don't mind a non NZ domain names they are cheaper. I pay US$8.95 per 
year for my boktek.com domain (registered by www.goddady.com). As of writing, 
the following names were available clugnz.org,  clugnz.net, clugnz.info and 
similar variations.

I have a static IP and do primary DNS for boktek.com with smtp, imap and other 
services over a Telstra/Clear HFC 256k/128k connection  10G per month cap. I 
could provide primary (or secondary) DNS for the proposed co-operative, but 
don't really have enough bandwidth (or disk) to support too many mail users.
