I have yet to see a site where using shockwave/flash (is there a difference?) has improved navigation, or has been used beneficially with something that wouldn't have been possible without. I have however seen many sites which are completely unusable because of it. > Same with the likes of nVidia video drivers, without which > Linux gaming would not be near as well supported by game developers... I can see a point in nvidia video drivers, simply because of a lack of better alternatives. I see no point in wasting my time on other nvidia hardware, e.g. their network stuff, to which anyone can buy equivalents by the truckload for $15 including full source code. > >oh dear Volker, did you have a bad day? No, just too many things to do. And I don't like turning all that stuff on in my browser, look where it gets the M$ies into... ;) > The thing is that some people like to see whizzy graphics and hear > groovy sounds when they browse the net. I do, but because I choose No problem with that, but generally I am looking for information and don't want to be entertained, and the trouble is that most websites are *only* designed to entertain, at least judging by the way the few pieces of useful information are carefully hidden. Yes I also browse with images off - amazing how many sites just don't have anything to say. My own opinion, of course. When you look at web site usability studies, quite often the result is that >50% of sites are rated disgusting, and something like 2/3 difficult to navigate.
