Paul, thanks for your support! :) It's really appricated that others help out when you're frustrated! :) :) While I love learning this stuff it really gets frustrating when you just don't know enough... which I don't yet. I got the kde working soon enough after I worked out that I hadn't installed X (I would have thought it would have told me that was the problem). I didn't want to use tasksel because I didn't want all the other stuff it brings with it. I only seem to have KDE2 thou, is there a KDE3 for Deb? I'm not sure why my webmin won't work thou. Never mind... I'm off to investigate IPSEC next.
