Anything in non-free? (ok, the Social Contract stipulates that non-free and
contrib are not part of Debian, but that's a minor point for serious
purists.)

FUD. From the Social Contract:

5. Programs That Don't Meet Our Free-Software Standards

We acknowledge that some of our users require the use of programs that don't
conform to the Debian Free Software Guidelines. We have created "contrib"
and "non-free" areas in our FTP archive for this software. The software in
these directories is not part of the Debian system, although it has been
configured for use with Debian. ....

We most definitely do *host* (mirror) such software. And since when is Java
non-free?

Package: gcj
Priority: optional
Section: devel
...
Description: The GNU Java compiler
GCJ is a front end to the GCC compiler which can natively compile both
Java(tm) source and bytecode files. The compiler can also generate class
 files.

(note: Section: is 'devel', not 'non-free/devel')

I do apologise for contributing to this silly thread, but people that
continue to spread FUD, intentionally or otherwise, annoy the hell out of
me. If they don't know something for sure, they should shut the hell up, or
add a lot of disclaimers such as 'I think', 'I'm not sure, but', 'I may be
wrong' or 'IIRC'.
