what is the ip address of the windows box?It seems the problem is caused by tap0 taking the same IP address as eth0 causing access to be blocked.

Unfortunately the working Windows box only lasted as long as the next reboot. The other Windows machine I have here can ping the Linux machine fine, and the two Windows boxes can talk to each other fine on TCP/IP. Strange, maybe I will try a new network card i the Windows box.
How do I permanently change the IP address used by tap0? What does it do anyway?
