It seems the problem is caused by tap0 taking the same IP address as eth0 causing access to be blocked.

How do I permanently change the IP address used by tap0? What does it
do anyway?



We've been throught this on the earlier thread I think. It is part of
the dial on demand daemon setup. Remove diald package, as you are not
using a modem on that machine anyway.





I will want to get the modem working later so that updates can be downloaded.
