I reckon it's just that the church is viewed as out-of-date and out-of-touch. To me it ain't about keeping up with anyone, it's providing people with an opportunity to worship that is relevant to them in their culture. Just like there's nothing wrong with Hymns, but modern pop/rock styled worship suits some people better.
But I reckon the real question is...
