Hi,
        Mandrake comes with modem drivers. And usually the modem is detected upon 
installation. So most likely you have a winmodem, otherwise known as a 
software modem. It is possible to set this up in linux. But I wouldnt bother. 
(to hard) I would use an external modem if I were you.
        One thing to check however is that ppp has been installed. This is easilly 
checked by typing rpm -q ppp at the command prompt. If it is not present then 
you will need to install this off of the installation discs. (It might be 
knows as pppd from memory)
