Hi,Well, I'm on ihug... a mistake, but there you go. There's no way that anyone is blocking your receiving mail from another server... I've got email addys in 3 countries around the world! However, you may have read that xtra is completely stuffed at the moment ( look at nz.comp newsgroup... oh, that's not too healthy either! ). I haven't got any problems connecting to servers in Europe via VPN, either, and I haven't changed the config of my laptop since I left the UK except to point at a new gateway.
We have recently moved to CHCH and I am very unfamiliar with the adsl products on offer here.
Signed up with jetstream and am now very disappointed to find I can't pull mail off a mail server in Aus that hosts my domain. What are they thinking blocking conventional mail.
As a side issue I used to connect with Smoothwall PPPOE but NZ seems to use PPPOA. What are you guys doing for linux gateways?
Or do you get the modem to connect and authenticate then get your firewall to dhcp from the adsl modem and run your network behind the linux box???
A couple of local pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers Richard

Seriously, no ISP will be blocking outgoing traffic on ports 110 or 143. Their job is to act as a gateway to the internet... they may filter what comes in, but not what goes out. Try telnet server 110 ( or 143 if imap ), and see if you get a reply.
