I've installed OSX multiple times onto a real Mac, and both Darwin and OSX into a pearpc emulator. But that's all ...

2. What distro? Yellowdog, Mandrake, Debian and Gentoo are known to have
ppc versions. Gentoo is probably out for logistical reasons. Debian has
been discounted for the x86 installs and the same may go for ppc, I do
not know. Google on suse ppc reveals that there may be such a beast but
i can't find out much about it, let alone a download source.

Well, I guess "it depends" on the hardware spec. I don't know how boot is managed on older Macs, and I really don't know why someone who has never installed OSX on a newer machine would want to put a Linux on - i.e. they should know how to do the boot process themselves already.

YellowDog has a long-standing name, and there's nothing wrong with Debian. OSX itself is fine, you can get most things from the fink project (except things that rely on the Linux kernel, of course)
