Can you use a more modern mail user agent?
netscape 4.7 is distinctly 'old-hat' now-a-days.
kmail has a mode which allows you to turn the html rendering on and off as 
desired. Mozilla Thunderbird is the MUA of choice for many people and has 
wonderful anti-spam features.

There is a proxy called junkbuster.

I'm sure using something like junkbuster will fix your problems.
