I don't know how much signal is lost when baluns are used (maybe no 
human-detectable amount).  If you care that no signal should be lost then 
probably you should wire the correct, specific cable.  If you want 
flexibility though then Google for baluns, Cat 5e, home entertainment, 
media, foo, bar, baz, etc.
