I have done the NDA bit so I can't tell you much more, but I assure you that a pretty good acroread Version 7 is being beta tested for Linux currently. I agree it's a confounded nuisance that Adobe just cannot 'get' the open-source idea. Kghostview with the acroread rendering engine is what the Linux world needs.
