It's not clear from your posting whether you have purchased a machine? So these comments may or may not be very relevant. As a genus IBM ThinkPads run Linux pretty well. I've owned an R40 for about 3 months and basically I'm very happy with it. Take care to get the CPU speed control going as soon as possible. (you run a risk of cooking the machine if you don't.) There is a bit of black-magic and voodoo involved installing Linux and getting it to run properly, but it's not too out of the world. It's 'just' the matter setting up and compiling the kernel, and more particularly, acpi correctly. The very latest kernel (2.6.11-rc4) is a joy. The power consumption is much reduced. http://www.linux-thinkpad.org which seems somewhat moribund, but the attendant email list is pretty active with a few quite knowlegable members. http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-thinkpad -- C.S.
