I may just get sick of this and purchase a router if and when funds permit (next week or two). I understand that this would be a great deal easier to connect, using PPPoE through the network card on my motherboard.
Oh, and cheers Roger. Not quite that green (but still pretty green) but it does pay to check these things ie: pressing enter etc. (Buttons? My mouse has buttons?...)

You'll have to give me very basic instructions for the use of lsmod and the
modprobe line I'm afraid. Is this something I use through the command line
interface? I have set up a Terminal Sessions button on the taskbar (thanks
Roger) but there are two options that begin with "Root" (Root Shell and
Midnight Commander?? from memory - I'm in windoze typing this).
you want the root shell one and then you type commands in the"terminal" that appears onscreen and get responses back.
type in
lsmod
and see what response you get (until you get your internet working on this computer it REALLY helps to have another one that can access the net so you can sned us an email without rebooting)
Also, I don't understand what you mean by editor, or how to load a file into
one.
I do hope windoze and the graphical user interface hasn't ruined me for real
computing....
probably, but it is not a permanent affliction. You can be cured. I was.
