I will get a Y connector at some stage. No doubt I'll want to do it
again some time.

But it worked using the CD drive in the other computer. I just
unplugged the IDE cable from the main computer's motherboard, and
slapped it into the secondary IDE of the Deskpro. (Crazy - it has two
IDE channels, a separate, specialised CDROM connector, but only one
power connector.) Anyway, I turned the two computers on at about the
same time, the CD drive was recognised straight away, and I started
installing Ubuntu. I didn't boot the main computer though, just left
it at the grub boot screen.

One of my previous ideas was to move the Deskpro HDD into my main
computer and install Ubuntu from there, then swap the HDD back. But
there was no way I could get Ubuntu to boot on that computer. Neither
the live CD nor the install CD. Same with the previous version. Tried
a bunch of boot options, but no luck.
