Refering to the web dualphone web site, I see that this product isn't
supported by Linux.

Has anyone had a play with this product yet?

I had my first play with Skype under linux the other day and was
impressed. Sadly my laptops mic port is bung.

Nice hustle, Don.
You're welcome?

If your laptop's mic socket is broken it doesn't matter. Just don't plug a mic in and use the mic built in to the laptop. As long as you are wearing earphones you won't get audio feedback and all will be well.
It didn't work very well. I tried that, that's how I discovered the mic jack was bung.

You are right- the DualPhone is not supported in Linux. I have been using Skype on Windows and Linux for a while now, but I am looking into Gizmo as an alternative. Gizmo uses the open SIP standard, and does not use resources on your PC like Skype does.
Cheers.

I built a chat-cord (detailed on www.grynx.com - seems to be down just now) but I got a lot of echo. It was cool to be using a regular cordless phone to talk with Skype though. I am now waiting for a DECT box that I can plug into my PC and phone line and connect to from my DECT handset.

Yes that sounds like a goer.

I should further explain my interest...

As you all know, one of my passsions is the expainsion of everything that is data. I'm always on the lookout for anything new that is kewl. I want to empower people to empower me to expand the data/information world. The DualPhone looked like a good product that people like my parents and family would be interested in. It's cordless and it's connected.

I've been down the path of talking up products in the past only to find they're full of holes. So these days I spend more time asking guys like you guys for a point of view.
Have fun!
Always.

Cheers Don
