So I take it native res is [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'll set the desktop to that

Just the 1024x768 matters. The 'multisync' part is what frequency your
video card outputs in drawing that to screen, and the acceptable range
is quite wide - including 60 <off he goes to find the manual quote..>.
conditions). So if you'd like me to drop by to test your computer's
compatibility soon, that's a can do.
Thanks for the offer, but it looks like things should work, and I'll
come a bit earlier.
Yes. No worries. Barry's desktop system hooked up problem-free today, no
reboot required. Often on laptops it is, to get the frequency agreed
with the LCD. Starting laptop after projector solves that.
Other question: how does one set the console, which would be vesafb
stuff I guess, to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Booting with vga=normal might set only
the resolution, but not the refresh.
Hmmm. This is the part that I need to master too. All I can say is that
the Debian / FreeBSD & Gnome distros I use start up in a grotty little
window of all black screen, until X starts. But the consoles stay that
way in the background (something to do with some kernel compilation
flag, on BSD, I am told). However Knoppix for e.g. & Mandrake IIRC draw
a full screen console from start to finish. It's probably a peculiarity
of my ATI/LCD combo though (no acceleration either). If I've got a Suse
LiveCD somewhere I'll let you know how that goes. Hopefully it'll be
fine / a home test would give you certainty & a chance to remedy any malady.
