Greetings,
I am interested in learning something about Linux and to that extent I have a couple of Live CD's sent to me by a friend in the States, one being Ubuntu 5.10 and the other has Knoppix 3.8, I also have coming Kubuntu, Simple Mepis, Melenix and a bit later Fedora Core. Now being a real dummy at this time these names do not mean much to me, but I am looking forward to playing with them. My computer is an AMD Sempron 1.6Ghz 480Mb Ram and 80 Gb HDD of which I have currently about 60Gb free, and using Windows XP Home. I believe that for some programs that when doing a full installation, it will partition the HDD before it installs (it is currently not partitioned), correct????
Are there places in Chch that you can get disks from for installing??
I believe you can download from the internet some different programs but think that most will be a bit too large for a 56k dial up which I use. I am assuming that these above mentioined programs are all different versions of Linux, is that right??? I would appreciate any suggestions or info that anyone might like to offer..... just dont make it too technical at this stage please.
Thanks
Alan Hughes
