Hi Alan,

This message came to the list. So I am replying to the list.

It is likely that wvdial is not installed by default, so you will have to
install it.

The package name is 'wvdial', and you can install it with Synaptic, or from
the command line (as root) with

apt-get install wvdial

I don't know about Synaptic, but if you do it via the command line with
apt-get then at the end of installation you will be asked to enter your ISP
and login details.

Then type wvdial to try and connect.

I'd like to stress that wvdial is an alternative to kppp, and that kppp is
probably the best application for you to use based on your particular
circumstances.

HTH,

Andrew
