Well Christopher I put all those lines into the options file and the 
grep showed they were all there (yes it was a $ not an S...I guess the 
letter S is in ass(me).... also redid the init 1 and 2 lines as you 
suggested.
Unfortunately the result was the same... dialled ok and connected, said 
logging onto network and sat there till it timed out........ so I guess 
there has gotta be something queer with the set  up of the
Modem...thankfully it still works with Windows yet  hi.
I am hoping that I may get an external Modem sometime this week.
