Alan, you really do need to be looking a bit harder, we have told you where to find the error codes, they are in the pppd manual page, which you can get by typing man pppd But to cut it short: "2 An error was detected in processing the options given, such as two mutually exclusive options being used." So you have two inconsistent options somewhere by the look of it. Where did you specify pap/chap? Now with your error messages there is a warning about not being able to modify two files, and I see you are running wvdial as user Alan. Please try it again as the root user and see what happens. Could you please also let us know the result of the command: ls -l /etc/ppp/*secrets What your screenshot does show is that there is a connection, and at 50666 which is a reasonable speed. Lastly, I am surprised someone hasn't bawled you out for posting pictures in your emails. One day get someone to show you how to cut and paste from a terminal window! But I for one am prepared to tolerate it for now and sort out the modem before we polish your other skills! -- Nick Rout <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
