Not on its own.

You have to make a desktop file and the information therein.
RH mouse click on the desktop background.
Select "Create New" -> "Link to Device" -> "Hard Disk Device"
Insert the disk partition details, etc. into the dialog window.

No, that's not the way you do it, but your desktop is in the 
directory /home/alan/Desktop
