I would like to know how to turn my laptop into an apt-proxy.

As for boot floppies, as previously stated, we don't have net access set up properly.

I normally use the network CD at home.

Cheers Don

Personally I install with the three boot floppies and download the current
packages as needed. An apt-proxy server helps save download time of course.

Nick - fix your reply-to please.

We don't yet have net access at the Upper Riccarton library, so I can't do a net install on Thursday.

Does anyone on list know anything about debian? How many of the ISO's do I need? I see there are 14 currently.

I also have a Debian machine which I've trashed but I want to repair. The version of the installer I've got doesn't seem to support a
repair. Any thoughts anyone?

Yes, RTFM

"Although a full set of binary packages requires several CDs, it is unlikely
you will need packages on the third CD and above."

You could also consider ubuntu as it supports a wide variety of packages and
tends to be more up to date.
