While Hans designed both of the Reiser file systems, it's important to
remember that Hans also has a team around him who did much of the actual
coding and implementation.

I'd agree that the whole of the Reiser filesystems project is at a crossroads.

Obviously we are living in "interesting times" right now as far as the Reiser
filesystems are concerned. imho they are both probably going to crumble and
fall into the annals of time. otoh it's quite possible that now that Hans is
otherwise occupied, at least for the time being, that the team will be able
to draw in some money to buy some time to give the project the proper final
polish it needs. One thing going in its favour is that there is quite a good
volume of documentions about it.

Having spoken briefly with Linus about the matter, and read the LKML archives
fairly extensively, I have my own opinions as to why Linus has not so far
welcomed Reiser4 into his own version of the Linux kernel, but this is not
the time or medium to explain them.

His stock of 'right hand men' is actually only two three people. What he's
done is to establish an open and effective tree of trust. ( look at
the "Signed off by: " lines in the kernel source code. )
