Yes that's true - but flyleads and patch cords made out of solid core cable are not very enduring.

I have discovered that there are two different types of plug. One for solid cables and one for flex cable. The difference is that the plug for solid cable has three prongs so that when it is crimped the prongs come down on each side of the copper and grip it. The flex cable plug only has two prongs and they are designed to crimp in to the center of the cable to get the best bite on the strands of copper.
