a solid exposition on BSDnix, thanks Wes.
BSD was the more mature code base when Linux came out. Linux soon caught up
though. I wouldn't be able to say which is ahead in which way.
That's how I see it too, technically - swings & roundabouts, mostly.
- Separate niches where they're each best applied for their different
strengths.
(That is, BSD is progressing by leaps & bounds these days. What is the
relevance of this fact to a computer Users' Group such as ours?)
Seems to me, if you really want to teach GNU/Linux, then you start with
BSD - in the classroom, that is. O/S context is everything. Different to
what newbies would run at home, mind, but the gap is closing at a rapid
rate of knots.
I hope we'll be treated to regular peeks at Chris's and Nick's command
lines this year.
But the greatest news is.. Picked up a copy of STANN last nite - St
Albans Neighbourhood News - the committee meeting of which was who we
were sharing the building with. Said hello to a familiar face, and now I
find it on the cover of STANN. Wes will have to tell us more!..
Christoph Hensch, the new St.A Resource Centre Manager, I met last year
at the Green Centre when he came in to check out the GNU/Linux intros I
was doing there. Hmm.. a roomful of shiny new XP boxes at STARC.. !?!..
Cheers
