Arr!  You most likely need to configure your PC to use DHCP for its network 
connection.  I am guessing that previously your PC had a hard-coded network 
configuration that is no longer appropriate in your new digs.  I am also 
guessing that the iBook already uses DHCP so it doesn't care.

Have a look in /etc/network/interfaces and see if there's anything like 
this:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Either way, please report what you do find there.
