earlier in the thread you said that you have 2 routers on your network. you are connected to a linksys router that is giving you the 192.168 range (the linksys default), which is then connected to a d-link router that is giving your machine the 10.1.1.1 for name resolution (the d-link default) goes to the phone jack (so providing your connection to the internet). i'm sure that such an arrangement could be made to work but it is perhaps the reason why there is the current difficulty.
can you just (as a temporary measure) plug straight in to the d-link router instead, leaving the linksys router out of the equation? i suspect that at that point it will all just work if you are using dhcp, if so you can progress from there.
