I know very little about tweaking xorg.conf but I do know that Mepis, Ubuntu
and Kubuntu all fail to set it correctly for my widescreen LCD screen.
Here is what I do.....
I change every line like.......
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
to....
Modes "1440x900" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
That is, I add the correct res for my monitor manually and then it appears in
my desktop manager options.
