A distro war like all wars is totally pointless. It just creates misery,
chaos and confusion. Surely choosing an operating system comes down to
deciding what you want to do and then deciding what is the best tool to
accomplish what you want to do given your resources and abilities. I
chose Open Suse for example because I wanted a nice graphical interface
that would feel a bit like windows as I was very familiar with that. It
allowed me to get up and running very quickly (apart from getting my
network sorted which took longer, but that may have taken even longer on
something else I dont know.) and then allow me to move on to other
things once I had the feel for it like graduate to learning some
commands and editing config. files etc.

Windows XP is still on my other two computers as thats the best tool to
use on them at this point. Suse does exactly what I want at the moment
on this computer ie download torrents (not as fast as I would like) :-(
, play music and read the CLUG list. The computer never crashes and
doesn't have to be rebooted all the time.

So I say NO to all wars and yes to people clearly demonstrating the
best tool for a particular job whilst considering the resources and
abilities of the individual.
