It's astounding how many problems people on 64bit architectures seem

this lack of support from the proprietary software crowd.

Hmmm, I would have thought most of the issues with 64 bit architectures
would have been sorted out by now. I'm looking at buying a newish
desktop pc and have been tossing up between a couple of ex-lease jobbies
- the one I was more keen on is 64bit and as this is going to be used by
the family to play online flash games, stream music, watch youtube etc,
would I be better off with the 32 bit option?

Is it not that the issues are related to whether you install a 64bit or 32bit OS? As opposed to whether you have a 64bit processor? And that you can avoid the problems with flash etc by installing a 32bit distro on your 64bit hardware, thereby having the flexibility of changing to 54bit once those issues are resolved?
