So you're not running a web server on your desktop then Rik? Not a
particularly relevant comment.

is wamp running? IIRC there's a wamp icon in the system tray that
provides loads of control on restarting the web server, mysql, etc. 

Sorry, it's been a long time since I ran it, but the important thing to
look for is the location of the Document Root - which you want to be set
to  c:\wamp\www, but I expect it'll be that the service isn't started
up.

It's also possible, although unlikely that you'll need to access
http://localhost/index.php

If you haven't gone too far with WAMP, then I recommend uninstalling it
and using WampServer ( http://www.wampserver.com/en/ ) in it's place.
