I'm not at all sure what you're doing wrong, but its got to be huge. I just downloaded the gphoto tarball, and read INSTALL without a hitch. There is no mention *anywhere* of a 'install-sh' file. You build gphoto like most other software: ./configure make make install
so where did you get the idea that you were supposed to run install-sh??
